My dad got into a cycling accident recently and broke his neck. the doctor says that he has bruised his spinal cord at the C1 and C2 vertebra both of which are cracked. this happened on Sat it is now Tues his latest update was he was eating solid foods joking with the nurses he flexed his quads squeezed my moms hand and is breathing on his own what are his chances of a full recovery...Also my dad is in top physical condition he has done 26 marathons 2 ironmans and rides his bike 50 miles everyday and 100 on weekends, what type of function will he have when this is over and how long will that be
Hi Stephan, It is early days of course but the first signs are good, if he squeezed your Mums hand then that means he at least has some movement back, and quickly. It is of course hard to say what the extent of recovery will be, this is dependant on the damage to the spinal cord and nerves and only time will tell. The fact that your father is a fit man can only work in his favour during rehabilitation. I wish your father every strength and I hope for him that he enjoys a full recovery.
